Message from Truckee AYSO for
U6, U8, and U10 Divisions

To Truckee AYSO Players, Parents, and Coaches,

We are looking forward to a fun and positive season. In order to get ready for the upcoming season, Truckee AYSO wanted to let players, parents, and coaches know about a new policy that affects all boys and girls U6, U8, and U10 divisions.

After discussing the medical evidence now available on concussions for youth athletes and considering National AYSO’s suggestion that heading the ball be eliminated from the game for U6, U8, and U10 divisions, Truckee AYSO has decided to ban heading the ball at practices and games for U6, U8, and U10 divisions. Studies on this topic conclude that player’s bodies have not developed to the point of being able to head the ball safely. Also, heading is not a common part of the game for U6, U8, and U10 in any event. For these reasons and in order to increase player safety, Truckee AYSO has made this decision.

Coaches will not practice heading in these divisions and heading will not be permitted during the games. Truckee AYSO recognizes that it will take a little time to get used to this change in policy, and it wanted to let players, parents, and coaches know about the new policy well before the season started. Thank you for your cooperation and support to enhance player safety.

Thank you. – Truckee AYSO Board
