Become a coach

Coaching AYSO is a privilege and can be a rewarding experience for you and the players. Remember it’s about fun and learning the game of soccer. Years from now, will YOU be the coach one of these kids remembers?

AYSO’s coach training program is accredited by the The National Council for Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE).

  • All coaches must submit a one-time fingerprint scan (download the form).
  • All coaches must pass a yearly background check with Sterling (you'll get an email once you signup)
  • All coaches must attend coach orientation on Aug 20
  • All coaches must complete an age specific AYSO certified training - see training schedule below.
  • All coaches must complete online training:
    • One-time online coach training for 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U (additional in-person training is also required, see training schedule below)
    • Concussion Awareness (every other year)
    • Heart attack awareness (every other year)
    • Safe Haven certification (every other year)
    • Safesport (one time, and transferable between sports organization)

Coach Training Schedule - 2023

  • 6U/8U coach training
    • Friday, August 11th, 6-8pm @ Meadow Park, Truckee
    • Monday, August 14th, 6-8pm @ Meadow Park, Truckee
    • Saturday, August 19, 9:30am - 11:30am @ Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe (Region 282)
    • Sunday, August 20, 9:30am - 11:30am @ Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe (Region 282)
      • Bring a camp chair, pen, notebook, and water bottle. Be dressed for running and kicking soccer balls. Register on AYSOU and complete online coach course BEFORE the class! You have ONE WEEK to complete all required modules after coach training (we can see online of you'd done it or you will not be certified.)
  • 10U/12U coach training
    • Sunday, August 13th, 3:30pm - 7:30pm @ Riverview Park Pavilion, Truckee
    • Saturday, August 19th, 12:30 - 4:30pm @ Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe
    • Sunday August 20th, 12:30 - 4:30pm @ Lkake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe
    • Sunday August 27th, 3:30 - 7:30pm @ Riverview Park Pavilion, Truckee
      • Bring a pen, notebook, and water bottle. Be dressed for running and kicking soccer balls. Must be 10U coach certified to attend (can attend prior 6U/8U session to qualify). Register on AYSOU and complete online coach course BEFORE the class! Complete AYSO Summary of the Laws of the Game to be certified. You have ONE WEEK to complete all required modules after coach training (we can see online of you'd done it or you will not be certified.)

     

    Login to www.truckeeayso.org -> Volunteer (signup if you have't done so) -> on volunteer page select "AYSOU" button near top right of page -> training event -> search by region 740 -> sign up for appropriate event -> go to training library for safe haven, CDC concussion, and Simon's heart. Luckily each of these modules is good for 3 years. 10U/12U coaches also need to take AYSO's Summary of the Laws of the Game module to be certified.

Accident Reporting

If a player or registered adult volunteer (such as a Coach or Referee) becomes injured during a scheduled practice, game or training, the injury must be reported immediately to the Safety Director, [email protected]. To report the accident, please use the Incident Report Form.
